2007 Beginning Beekeeping Class
The Jefferson County Beekeepers Association is pleased to announce that we will once again be offering a beginning beekeeping class for anyone interested in beekeeping. This basic class will introduce you to the wonderful and exciting world of beekeeping. The 4 night class will be filled with information designed to help the beginning beekeeper get started into this fascinating hobby. The class will lay the groundwork so that you will feel comfortable as a beginning beekeeper and help to answer some basic questions. The class is taught through a combination of lecture and video. We will teach you how to buy and assemble equipment, select the best bee for your hobby, where to place your hives, how to feed and care for your growing colonies, where to acquire bees, and how to treat and prevent diseases. Basic beekeeping has changed little over the past 100 years, but diseases and pests now make beekeeping even more of a challenge. The goal of this class is to help you begin beekeeping more confidently than if you were on your own. The class will meet on February 12, 19,26, and on March 12, 2007. We will meet in the University of Missouri Extension Office meeting room located in the Jefferson County Courthouse in Hillsboro, Missouri. The class will meet from 6:30-9:00 pm, and the cost is $45.00 per person, including textbooks. If you would like to enroll, contact Wanda Kiggans at (636) 797- 5391. Hope to see you there!
