Joint Monthly Meeting

Grant Gillard speaker!

For the month of March our club has joined with the Saint Louis Beekeepers club to present a special speaker, Grant Gillard. He will be speaking about “Second Year Beekeeping: Coming out of winter. What are the options?”

Grant Gillard started keeping bees in Minnesota in 1981 following his graduation from Iowa State University. His hobby spiked upward when his family moved to Jackson, Missouri in 1993 where he ran around 200 colonies, selling honey at three different farmer’s markets. In 2018, in order to move closer to family in the greater Kansas City area, he relocated to Holden, Missouri to establish his presence in the world of beekeeping.

Grant Gillard is also a Presbyterian pastor in Holden, Missouri. He keeps around 80 hives, selling honey at the farmer’s markets in Lee’s Summit, Missouri. He raises his own queens, sells nucs and has published several books on his experiences.

He was past president of the Missouri State Beekeepers Association and is a frequent regional and national conference speaker. He received the Missouri State Beekeeper of the Year Award in 2012. He founded the Jackson Area Beekeepers Association and teaches beginning beekeeping classes around the state.

The meeting will be at the Fenton Methodist Church, 800 Gravois Road, Fenton MO 63026 on March 10th.

Feel free to bring a snack to share. The clubs will provide coffee, tea and water. We will be passing a can for donations for the speaker..
